Palisades U11F Thunder's Win Results in a Coach's Bad Hair Day

posted Nov 8, 2010, 6:31 AM by Tom Buccigrossi   [ updated Jul 6, 2011, 1:57 PM ]

Coach Steve made good on a promise to the U11 Thunder today when the team trekked to Bucks County Hair Company in Kintnersville to watch him get his haircut.  Coach Steve promised the team that if somebody scored on a header, the team could choose his next haircut.  Kerstin Koenig came through with a header goal a few weeks ago and the team went wild with excitement.  After much conversation among the girls, they chose a hot purple/pink mohawk with black polka dots on the sides (which, on top of the already white hair, makes him look a bit like a dalmation, the girls quickly noted.)

Palisades Thunder locked up third place in their PAGS division by solidly beating Harleysville today 3-1.  Katie Hackley scored first on a PK.  Kayal Reed intercepted a pass and with a mighty one timer, blasted the ball into the net from outside the 18.  The third goal was scored by Sophie Domain with an assist from Kristalyn Rook.

Palisades 6 - TEYSA 0

10/24/10 - The PYSA U11F Thunder won a pretty lopsided victory on Sunday at home versus the TEYSA Storm. Katie Hackley had two goals and an assist, Kayla Reed and Bailey Keebler each had one goal, Bailey had one assist, Kayla had 1 1/2 assists, Julia Killcoyne had half an assist and Kerstin Koenig had two goals and an assist.

Kerstin's last goal was a special one. Julia received a pass and crossed the ball in front of the net. Kayla launched a powerful shot that the keeper blocked with her hands popping the ball up into the air. Kerstin was in perfect position and headed the ball into the goal. At this point, the entire team realized what transpired and most looked over to Coach Steve and rubbed their heads. Close to two years ago, a challenge was issued by Coach Steve. If the team scores on a header, they get to pick Coach Steve's haircut. Rumor has it that Coach will be sporting a rainbow mowhawk with the Dallas Cowboys emblem on one side of his head and the New York Giants on the other. The haircut is being scheduled and I'm sure pictures will be taken. Nice job, ladies.

10/3/10 - The U12M Palisades Pirates are off to a red hot 5-0 start this season and are well on their way to an Inter-County Division II championship.

The Pirates are led by three co-captains: Nick Richter, Charles Ryan and Jared Colletti. Each captain represents a different area of the field - Richter at sweeper, Ryan in the midfield, and Colletti up top at striker.

"Our players are more committed to the program than any I have worked with," says head coach Sherri McClintock. "Their hard work, love of the game, and team chemistry all demonstrate a high level of commitment."

Another aspect of the team McClintock enjoys is their balance. The Pirates have scored nineteen goals so far this the season, with seven different players finding the back of the net, and assists coming from nine others.

"We are just so balanced and everyone contributes," McClintock says. "Everyone on the team steps up and plays like a star, and that is what makes us so dangerous."

The U12M Palisades Pirates: Nick Bucich, Jared Colletti, Michael Creighton, Tom Eichlin, Wyatt Gordon, Ryan Kelly, Patrick Lodwig, Bobby McClintock, Adam Mekki, Nick Richter, Charles Ryan, Jack Salva, Adam Sherman, Bobby Shoemaker, and Daniel Weaver.
